Driver Out On Bail Crashes Into Waukesha Building, Police Say

Police said the incident wasn't weather-related and the driver was out on bail for operating while intoxicated third-offense.

WAUKESHA, WI—A person out on bail for operating while intoxicated third-offense, crashed into a building on Tuesday evening, according to the City of Waukesha Police Department. At 5:23 p.m. squads responded to the 300 block of Williams Street for a report that a car that had crashed into the building.

A 2014 Jeep Cherokee was located with severe front end damage, and the front porch of the house had severe damage, to include a load bearing beam which provided structural support for a balcony attached to the building, according to police.

The driver of the car was out on bail for OWI third-offense at the time of arrest, and was arrested. Dan Baumann, Captain of Police said the incident will likely become an OWI fourth- offense.

"Due to severe structural damage, the Fire Department called out their Special Operations Team which responded with lumber to build a couple of makeshift support beams to prevent further deterioration of the building’s structure and reducing any risk of injury to pedestrians," Baumann said.

The above incident was not weather related. Baumann added, from 6 p.m. on Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday there were 27 disabled vehicles and 7 property damage accidents. No injury accidents were reported, Baumann said.
