Elmbrook Schools To Go In-Person Learning 5-Days A Week

Parents comment during school board meeting on Tuesday night.

BROOKFIELD, WI—The Elmbrook School District will reopen five days a week to in-person learning. The school board decided on Tuesday between full in-person learning, a fully virtual model or a longer hybrid of the two.

Parents have the option to choose between in-person learning or going fully virtual. The deadline for parents to decide which option they want is the end of this week.

Parent Heidi Anderson was not in support of continuing virtual learning. She stated during the meeting responsible parents would have to be home with children to make sure they are safe online. This could lead to adults not being able to go to work, she said.

The reopening decision along with requiring masks came after several hours of discussions by school board members.

“Six-foot distance and wearing masks are pagan rituals of satanic worshipers," Anderson said at the meeting.

Anderson said her children are Christian and are not subject to wearing masks.

Another parent discussed the importance of mental health and the impact of students being away from each other. She stated she heard from some teenagers that if kids aren't in school, suicide rates could possibly increase.

Parent Danny Thomas applauded the board for taking the coronavirus seriously and supported the mask mandate in schools. He also supported not rushing into having in-person learning.

“I want my kids to have five days a week learning as long as possible. If we rush to reopen we will have to close,” Thomas said.

The meeting is available to be viewed via YouTube. The audio is very low and an Elmbrook School District spokesperson said the issue was being resolved.
