Hadfield School Put On Lockout, Neighborhood Threat Resolved

Police in Waukesha say Hadfield School was put on lockout Wednesday afternoon as law enforcement tended to a neighborhood incident.

WAUKESHA, WI — There was extra security present at dismissal time at Hadfield Elementary School in Waukesha Wednesday after police say they took the extra precaution to deal with a man who may have been armed with a gun in the area.

According to Waukesha Police, officers were called out to a house on the 900 block of Beechwood Ave. to check for an intruder at a home on the block.

As police were on their way, authorities say they learned the man could have been armed with a gun. As a precaution, school administration instituted a lockout at the school at just after 1 p.m. During the lockout, nobody was allowed in or out of the building, and all students, staff and visitors who were in the building were kept inside as a safety precaution.

The Waukesha Police Department’s SWAT team, rescue vehicles, negotiators, and Deployable Technology Unit were deployed to the house on Beechwood Ave. which is located about two blocks north of school grounds.

Officers were present at Hadfield school for safe end of the day release. There was no threat to the
school. The incident was isolated to the residence on Beechwood.

Authorities say crisis negotiators talked with the man, and determined he was not a threat to the public. The situation was resolved by just after 3 p.m., police said.
