WAUKESHA, WI — Authorities in Waukesha say a hit-and-run driver who tried entering a home on N. Bel-Ayr Drive was caught after he was seen on a homeowner's Ring doorbell camera trying to get inside.

According to Waukesha Police call logs, officers responded to the intersection of N. Washington Ave. and Michigan Ave. at just after 4 a.m. on Sept. 18 on a report of a vehicle that crashed into a post.

Police say the driver, later identified as Giobany Acosta, 23, of Dousman, fled the scene of the crash. An eyewitness reportedly saw Acosta attempting to enter a home on N. Bel-Ayr Drive, and called police.

According to police, a home security camera - a Ring doorbell camera - installed on the front door of the house alerted the residents inside of Acosta's attempted visit. Police said the homeowner called police over the incident, and officers reportedly found him walking a short distance away.

Acosta was later arrested, and has now been charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court with his third drunken driving offense, disorderly conduct and bail jumping, according to records posted online. He's due in court on Oct. 16.
