Residents, Pets Escape Waukesha House Fire
The fire broke out Saturday afternoon on Oakland Avenue in Waukesha.
WAUKESHA, WI— No injuries were reported and a pet turtle was saved during a fire in Waukesha on Saturday afternoon.
The City of Waukesha Fire Department responded to the fire in the 800 block of Oakland Avenue on Saturday afternoon. Crews found the entire back side of the building on fire.
Fire crews put out the blaze within 20 minutes of getting to the scene. All residents and pets were able to escape, according to the department. Among the pets saved in the fire was a turtle who was removed by firefighters and survived, the department said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No civilians or firefighters were injured.
The fire department thanked Waukesha police for assisting with the fire investigation and also thanked WE Energies for their role in controlling utilities during the fire.

The department reminded residents to properly dispose of smoking materials and to have working smoke detectors in their homes.
