Shooting Incident Sunday

Waukesha police say they were called to a home in the 2400 block of Pebble Valley Road just after 8 p.m. on July 5 on a report that a 45-year-old white man attempted to strangle a woman inside the house. Police said they approached the house, set up a perimeter and began to try to negotiate with him.

According to police, the man brandished a handgun and told the woman he was going to shoot family members and police officers during the strangling incident. Police learned the woman was able to get away from the man, along with three young children that were also in the house just before police arrived.

Waukesha police said they tried talking with the man, when he suddenly began shooting at officers from a window in his home. The gunfire struck an armored vehicle that officers were occupying, police said.

Officers fired back, police said. After an exchange of gunfire, officers tried talking to the man again but had no success, police said. Officers entered the man's home, where he was found dead by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Police said they found two guns in the home.
