Man Convicted In Waukesha Christmas Parade Files Intent For Appeal

After a jury convicted Darrell Brooks in the 2021 Waukesha Christmas parade, online records show he is seeking post-conviction relief.

WAUKESHA, WI — The man who was sentenced to life in prison after a jury convicted him of killing six in the 2021 Waukesha Christmas parade has filed the initial paperwork to seek an appeal, online court records show.

Darrell Brooks filed a notice of intent to seek post-conviction relief on Tuesday, with the clerk sending a response to the State Public Defender alongside judgments of conviction and a list of court reporters and hearings, online records said. The handwritten notice looks for help from the public defender's office, according to a report by WISN12.

Brooks was convicted on six charges of first-degree intentional homicide on Oct. 26 alongside dozens of charges of recklessly endangering safety plus six charges of fatal hit and run. At trial, prosecutors had asserted Brooks intentionally rammed his SUV through the 2021 Christmas parade.
