The program was an extension of the Seamless Summer Option, a federal initiative that would give free or reduced-cost lunches β without income requirements β to all students. Waukesha was the only district in the state to opt-out of the federal program.
Rajnicek came under fire after she made a remark about children becoming spoiled by the meal program.
During a special meeting, Rajnicek tried to clarify her comments on Monday night.
βThe βspoiledβ I referred to, itβs me, itβs all of us, if we rely on the system when we can provide for ourselves,β she said.
The district said the board and administration have received an "onslaught of toxicity" and have been the subject of threats and verbal abuse. Rajnicek has been singled out in voicemails and letters, according to a Fox 6 news report.
"You're evil and you will pay for this" and "I hope they come for you with torches and pitchforks," some letters said. She also received emails that read "I hope you and your children choke and die," "You're about to get ruined" and "Hope you get hit by a bus," the report said.
