Man Who Died After Waukesha Arrest Identified

Waukesha police responded to a medical call on Ellis Street early Tuesday morning.

WAUKESHA, WIβ€”A man who died after Waukesha police responded to a medical call on Ellis Street early Tuesday morning has been identified.

Waukesha Police identified the 58-year-old man as Paul J. Bruner, of Waukesha.

Three officers responded to the home in the 1300 block of Ellis Street for a man who was having trouble breathing, Waukesha Police said in a news release.

Police said that Bruner was uncooperative and they concluded that a domestic violence incident had occurred. Police said the officers used physical force and a stun gun to take Bruner into custody when he didn’t comply with the arrest.

Bruner lost consciousness after being handcuffed and life saving measures were given. Bruner was taken to the intensive care unit where he later died.

The officers involved in the arrest had been with the department anywhere between one to four years. They were placed on administrative leave.

The investigation is being conducted by law enforcement officials from Milwaukee and the City of Greenfield Police Department, which is the lead agency.
