Residents Affected By Power Outages In Waukesha County

Utility crews are working to restore power to 45,000 Wisconsin customers by 7 p.m., including 4,000 in Waukesha County, We Energies said.

WAUKESHA, WI β€” Thousands of Wisconsin residents, including hundreds in Waukesha County, were without power Tuesday after a round of storms and high winds on Monday.

Around 965 customers lost power in Waukesha County, a We Energies outage map showed. Most of the outages were located in the southern part of the city. As of 11:39 a.m. Tuesday, around 18,000 people in southeastern Wisconsin were still without power. The company hopes to have all electricity restored by 7 p.m.

Utility crews restored power to more than 25,000 of 45,000 customers who lost power Monday night after strong storms and intense winds across southeastern Wisconsin, We Energies spokesperson Brendan Conway said in a statement. More than 500 workers from across the state worked on restoration on Tuesday.

Crews found significant damage like power circuits that needed to be rebuilt, Conway said. People should stay at least 25 feet away from downed wires and report downed wire to We Energies or local law enforcement.

A heat advisory is in effect for Waukesha and Milwaukee Counties from Tuesday morning to Wednesday at 8 p.m., weather media company AccuWeather reported. Heat index values up to 107 degrees are expected, so residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids and stay out of the sun to avoid heat-related illness.

Tuesday's outages followed a round of storms that moved across the state on Monday, bringing high winds and large hail to the Midwest and parts of the Northeast.

Wisconsin was near the center of a possible derecho, or inland hurricane, AccuWeather reported.
