New Cooling Center Open In Waukesha: What You Need To Know
The American Red Cross is opening another cooling center in Waukesha Thursday to help those still without power.
WAUKESHA, WI- Over 1,400 City of Waukesha and 160 Village of Waukesha residents remain without power on Thursday morning after severe storms across much of the state Tuesday night, according to a media spokesperson with WE Energies.
Hot temperatures are expected for Waukesha. Heat index values should reach the middle 90s this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Waukesha County officials want residents to use every resource available to keep cool.

The American Red Cross announced an additional cooling center in Waukesha to help those still without power.
The Waukesha Schuetze Recreation Center, 1120 Baxter Street, will be open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Masks are strongly encouraged. Power, water and snacks will be available.
Residents can also call 211 to locate additional cooling centers. Dozens of cooling centers and places to cool off are located in Waukesha County, such as libraries, malls, or senior dining centers.

- Report outage and get updates.
- Stay at least 25 feet away from downed power lines or flooded areas.
- Stay out of flooded basements or rooms.
- Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible.
- Use manual operation of the garage door.
- Go to a safe shelter if your home is extremely cold or hot
- Use flashlights, not candles.
- Use generators properly.
- Unplug or turn off appliances to avoid overloading when power is restored.
- Leave a single light on to alert you when power is restored.
- If your home is the only one in the neighborhood without power, check breakers/fuses.
- Use food safety tips for frozen and refrigerated items.
