Officer, Teen Injured During Scuffle At Waukesha School

The incident happened at EAST Alternative High School Monday morning.

WAUKESHA, WIβ€”A Waukesha police officer and a student were injured during an incident at EAST Alternative High School on Monday morning.

According to police, the officer was struck in the head by a 16-year-old student. Police said the officer had to fight back and the student sustained cuts and bruises during the scuffle.

Both injuries were not life threatening, according to police.

The incident caused a large police presence at the school with 12 squads responding.

Waukesha Police Captain Dan Bauman told Patch they were called for a report of juvenile trouble at the school. The 16-year-old became combative while waiting for his parents to pick him up, Bauman said.

The teen struck an officer, who was standing next to him, in the face with an object.

β€œHe was arrested for battery of a law enforcement officer,” Bauman said.

Bauman said the teen will most likely go through juvenile court.

"There was an unfortunate incident at EAST Alternative School yesterday where a student got physically aggressive with a School Resource Officer. Although there was a significant police presence the situation was under control and normal school routines resumed quickly," Waukesha Superintendent James Sebert said in a statement.
