Oscar Mayer Wienermobile Pulled Over In Wisconsin

Sheriff's officials said the driver of the Wienermobile was grilled about Wisconsin's Move Over Law during the traffic stop.

WAUKESHA, WI — Here's a story that Oscar Meyer will not relish: a Deputy with the Waukesha County Sheriff's office pulled over Oscar Mayer Wienermobile over the weekend for a traffic violation.

Sheriff's officials said the driver of the Wienermobile was grilled about Wisconsin's Move Over Law, which requires drivers on the road move to the side of the road when an emergency vehicle rushes to the scene with their lights and sirens on. When a deputy saw that the driver wasn't pulling to the side of the road, they conducted a traffic stop on the 27-foot sausage-shaped vehicle.

In Feb. 2015, the driver of the Wienermobile slid off the road and crashed into a pole in Enola, Pennsylvania, severely damaging the front of the vehicle.

Then there was the time the Wienermobile crashed into the home and outdoor deck of Nick Krupp in Mount Pleasant. The vehicle was lodged halfway into the house. Police said the driver was trying to turn the lumbering vehicle around in tight quarters and lurched forward - with the driver thinking the vehicle was in reverse.

Former U.S. Speaker Paul Ryan can attest to the challenge of piloting the Wienermobile. During one summer as a college student, Ryan was an Oscar Mayer salesman, and got his own behind-the-wheel experience.

Ryan said in a Washington Examiner post, “The Wienermobile is an easier job, I’ll put it that way. You’re more popular driving the Wienermobile than being speaker of the House.”
