Investigators Identify Man Who Died In Waukesha Jail Custody

After an inmate died at the Waukesha Co. Jail, investigators said there was no obvious signs in his cell as to what caused the death.

WAUKESHA, WI — Authorities on Monday identified the man who died in custody on Jan. 17 at the Waukesha County Jail as 34-year-old Randy Glenn Jr. of Milwaukee.

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office said the man was found unresponsive in his cell around 6 a.m. that day during a routine check, and despite efforts to save him, he died. The man was taken into custody the day prior on a probation hold through the Department of Corrections, according to the sheriff's office. Amid the death, the Waukesha sheriff's office said it requested an investigation from the Washington County Sheriff's Office in the interest of transparency, even though state law would not mandate an investigation.

On Monday, the Washington County Sheriff's Office gave a brief update on their investigation. The outside investigators said Glenn was arrested on Jan. 16 after a traffic stop in Waukesha and brought to the jail that afternoon. Glenn Jr. was housed alone in his cell and found dead the following morning, but there were no obvious signs in the cell to suggest what caused the death, according to the Washington Co. Sheriff's Office.

The outside investigators said they are in contact with the Glenn family to keep them informed.

"We ask and appreciate the community joining us in respecting the family’s wishes for privacy at this time to allow them time to grieve and process their loss," the Washington Co. Sheriff's Office said.
