Police Called After Unhappy Menards Customer Disputed Mask Policy

WAUKESHA, WI — A man who was unhappy over a popular hardware store's mask policy became unruly and police had to be called, according to police.

According to Waukesha police call logs, officers were sent to the Menards at 2315 Bluemound Road just after 2 p.m. on Thursday on a report of an unhappy customer over an issue with the store's mask policy.

According to store policy at Menards, all customers and employees have to wear masks inside the store. Menards already has several other precautions in place, including increased cleaning practices, social distancing guidelines, special elderly and vulnerable guest hours. Children younger than 16 and family pets are no longer allowed in stores as well, according to the store's website.

Police call logs stated the man entered the store without a mask on, and was confronted by store security, who told him he needed to wear one in order to enter the store.

According to police, the man "didn't like this, and was being vocal." Police said during the confrontation, the man attempted to record Menards staff on his cell phone. When Menards staff moved to call police, the man left in his Toyota Highlander, police call logs stated.
