WAUKESHA, WI — A late night television host name-dropped Waukesha in a bit about Midwest inflation on Tuesday night.

Stephen Colbert, host of the The Late Show, joked how people in Wisconsin would have to switch to lesser beers in face of rising gas prices in a Tuesday night segment:

"Due to inflation gas prices are up by 8.5 percent. That means no more splurging at the grocery store," Colbert said in a Facebook post. Instead of Milwaukee's Best, people would have to buy its cousin, "Waukesha's Ehhh," he said.

Ouch! First Colbert joking about Milwaukee during the Democratic National Convention in 2020, now this? At least he said sorry that time, using the Milwaukee Record's headline in his apology.

While it's true Wisconsinites felt the pinch of high energy prices, which are up by nearly half since 2021, maybe Colbert would have written a different punchline if he had tried a pint from a craft brewery in Waukesha.
