WAUKESHA, WI — A jury on Wednesday found Darrell Brooks guilty of every charge that he was facing after prosecutors asserted he rammed his SUV through the 2021 Waukesha Christmas parade on purpose.

Brooks looked down and clasped his hands together as Judge Jennifer Dorow read the verdict. Jury deliberations began Tuesday around 6:30 p.m. after a day in court marked by disruptions from defendant Brooks. The state gave its closing argument on Tuesday, and so did Brooks, who represented himself at trial.

Brooks faced 76 charges including six charges of first-degree intentional homicide, six charges of fatal hit-and-run, plus dozens of charges of recklessly endangering safety and bail jumping charges, according to online court records.

Brooks gave a tearful closing argument to the jury on Tuesday while Waukesha County District Attorney Susan Opper asserted that Brooks drove through the parade on purpose and that he could have stopped.

"He plowed through 68 different people," Opper told the jury during the closing, "how can you hit one and keep going, how can you hit two and keep going?"
