Water Restored In Waukesha After Water Main Break

The incident was reported Wednesday night, and water service was restored by early Thursday morning.

WAUKESHA, WI — All water service was restored, and cleanup was scheduled for Thursday in the northwest part of Waukesha after a water main break, according to Waukesha Water Utility.

A water main broke in the area of Whitby Court and North University Drive on Wednesday, the Waukesha Police Department said.

The water supply operator on duty noticed a significant loss in water pressure at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, Waukesha Water Utility said in an email.

"That is a lot of water and could have taken our entire system down, but our crews did an amazing job in responding and getting the mains shut down as quickly as possible," Waukesha Water Utility said.

The issue was isolated within 35 minutes at 9:15 p.m., leaving only three cul-de-sacs in the area without water. Service in the cul-de-sacs was restored by 2 a.m.

The utility company received more than 180 calls for lack of water or rusty water as crews made repairs.

"We concentrated our efforts on restoring service, which is why the voicemail was full, and calls went unanswered," Waukesha Water Utility said.

If residents still have issues with rusty water or air in water lines, the utility said to run the water at an outside spigot or a utility sink until it clears up.

Utility company staff were flushing lines in the area to clear up any remaining issues on Thursday.

If residents have low water pressure, they can check the aerators on faucets by unscrewing the tip of the faucet and checking the screen.
