Waukesha Common Council To Consider Eliminating Several Bus Stops
The elimination for a few are due to low ridership, changes to the road, and/or another bus stop is nearby.
WAUKESHA, WI— The Waukesha Common Council will meet 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday to consider eliminating several bus stops in the city, according to city documents.
The bus stops at Sunset at Sentry and College at Prairie (south side of street) are proposed for elimination due to low ridership and changes to the road when those roads are reconstructed later this year. The other bus stops are being proposed for elimination due to low ridership and/or other bus stops within a block or two.

The Sunset at Sentry and College and Prairie bus stops have no alternatives due to the changes to the roads they are on. The only alternative for the others is to keep the stops but it is unnecessary to do so as the stops have low ridership and/or have other stops in close proximity.
According to city documents, the cost to remove the bus stops is minimal and long term there is a savings as its fewer bus stops and bus pads to maintain and replace.
A few Patch reader weighed in on the proposed bus stop elimination.
Laurie Rohrwasser, a Patch Facebook user, said, "We need a transportation system that meets the needs of the people similar to Milwaukee. Pick ups every hour or so isn't feasible for those who work or have appointments. Having to transfer at the terminal makes your trip incredibly long. Our community has several group homes whose clients rely on public transportation, this will hurt them along with others who don't own cars. Bus transportation must be available 7 days a week so people can get to and from jobs also. Cutting stops will make it difficult if not impossible for many to use the transit."
