Waukesha County Names New Public Health Officer

County Executive Dan Vrakas announced today that Ben Jones has been named the new health officer.  Jones, who is the County’s epidemiologist and currently serves as interim health officer, replaces Peter Schuler, who retired as Director of Health and Human Services in June. 

Schuler also served as the health officer.

“I am very excited about the appointment of Ben Jones as Waukesha County Health Officer,” said Antwayne Robertson, Director of Waukesha County Department of Health and Human Services.  “We are all looking forward to working with Ben in his new role within the Department.  I am confident that as Health Officer, his leadership and professional experience will be a great match for our work toward a healthier and safer Waukesha County.”

The public health officer is the highest-ranking public health official charged with addressing prevention, protection and control of disease and injury for at-risk populations.  Jones received a Bachelor’s of Science degrees in biochemistry and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master’s of public health from Drexel University, and has served as Waukesha County’s epidemiologist since 2007.  Prior to his tenure with the County, Jones served as Health Information Specialist for the City of Milwaukee.
