Waukesha Library Giving Away Free Gardening Seeds

WAUKESHA, WI— Waukesha Public Library is one of nearly 70 libraries in southeastern Wisconsin giving away seed packets for pollinator-friendly plants.

Libraries in Dane, Brown, Dickinson, Jefferson, Milwaukee and Waukesha counties are giving away packets of blue aster and butterfly weed seeds supplied by the American Transmission Company.

These plants are low-growing and can be planted near transmission lines. They also attract pollinators like birds, bees and butterflies.

The seed packets are generally given away at lawn and garden shows, ATC communications director Greg Levesque said. But since many of these events were cancelled during the COVID-19 pandemic, ATC gave their remaining inventory to local public library systems to give away.
