Waukesha Man Faces Attempted Homicide Charge In Choking Case

Police say a Waukesha man shoved a stick down a woman's throat during a choking incident that caused internal bleeding.

WAUKESHA, WI — A man with a criminal background now faces attempted homicide charges in court after authorities say he tried choking a woman outside a Waukesha apartment building earlier this week.

According to court records, James Swift has been charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide. He's being held in the Waukesha County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond. He's due next in court on May 1 for a hearing. If convicted, Swift faces up to 40 years behind bars.

According to Waukesha police call logs, officers were sent to an apartment on the 200 block of W. Newhall Ave. just after 7 p.m. on Monday on a report of a domestic disturbance.

Police call logs showed that Swift was held at taser point by police after authorities say he assaulted a woman outside the building. Police call logs indicated he shoved a stick down the woman's throat, causing internal bleeding. The woman was rushed to the hospital, according to call logs.

Court records show that Swift has plead guilty to several offenses in the past, including disorderly conduct with a dangerous weapon in April 2015, battery and resisting an officer in January 2013, and five drug-related charges related to cocaine in April 2001, among other offenses.
