Waukesha Mayor 'Ashamed' Of Being Member Of Republican Party
City of Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly's comment was in response to Wednesday's breach on the U.S. Capitol Building.

WAUKESHA, WI— City of Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly said on social media he was "so upset" after a mob fought with police, pushed through clouds of tear gas and posed for selfies inside the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.
On social media, Reilly posted:
"This will possibly be the cause of the end of my political career but I have to put this out because I am so upset. I am ashamed that I was a member of the Republican Party and I do not know how I can ever be a member again."

Patch reached out to the mayor but he declined to comment to the media.
Waukesha Alderman Don Paul Browne responded to Reilly's decision by tweeting, "I applaud the Mayor's expression of outrage over yesterday's attacks on our capitol, as well as those in his party's leadership who encouraged it. But nobody should interpret this as a shift in how Waukesha City Govt will operate."

In Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, four people died as thousands of angry rioters forced members of Congress into hiding within the U.S. Capitol. Offices were ransacked, and the constitutionally mandated congressional tally of Electoral College votes stopped for more than six hours.
Metropolitan Police in DC made 69 arrests from Wednesday afternoon into the night for curfew violations and other offenses. A Hill reporter shared a copy of the arrest log, which showed many of those cited were from North Carolina, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
