WAUKESHA, WI — Police arrested one man after a police chase ended in a crash near Madison Street and Joellen Drive on Sunday, the Waukesha Police Department announced.

Police tried to pull over a white Jeep that was speeding swerving in and out of lanes when it took off, Waukesha Police Captain Dan Baumann told Patch.

The Jeep led police on a chase through several streets before striking another car and then a tree on Joellen Drive around 8:37 p.m., police logs showed. The driver, who was the only person inside, got out of the car as flames erupted from the

The man was arrested and taken to a local hospital, police said. It's not clear how severe his injuries were and police said he is awaiting charges.

Firefighters from the Waukesha Fire Department responded and extinguished the car fire, police logs showed.
