Waukesha Police Department Issues Body Cameras For Officers
Waukesha police began issuing new Axon body cameras for uniformed officers this week.
WAUKESHA, WI — The Waukesha Police Department is now equipping each uniformed officer with body cameras, the agency announced Wednesday.
The department said officers will activate their new Axon Body Worn 3 cameras during calls and enforcement actions.
“The body worn camera program is a great step forward for our department” said Police Chief
Dan Thompson in the news release. “These products are an investment in transparency. All of the products help showcase the level of service that is provided to our community on a daily basis. These products will maintain the integrity of digital evidence for the courtroom and help train our
officers to provide even better service in the future.”

By spring 2023, the department also expects to outfit its fleet cars with upgraded cameras from Axon. Police said the new cameras will utilize automated license plate recognition technology alongside recording traffic stops.
When the equipment is outfitted the department will have 26 cars with ALPR tech onboard, which police say will help combat crime and stolen vehicles.

The department said it is also now using a new evidence platform called Evidence.com to streamline sharing and accountability.
