Waukesha Police Department Warns Of Fraudulent Phone Calls

If you receive a call from someone telling you that you owe money and they threaten litigation, beware.

WAUKESHA, WI — The Waukesha Police Department is warning via their Facebook page that fraudulent phone calls have been made to residents in an attempt to scam them out of money.

Here's how it works:

Someone will call claiming that they are from a collection agency claiming that you owe money for an outstanding loan. The caller will also threaten civil litigation if a settlement payment isn't made right away. The caller will then ask for credit card information to make the payment.

Calls have been originating from the 844 and 414 area codes, so be on alert if you recieve a call you don't recognize from either of these are codes.

And always, continue to be vigilant and mindful of releasing personal information, including banking and credit/debit card numbers, to strangers.
