WAUKESHA, WI — Heading into the final weekend of March, some parts of Wisconsin could experience yet another round of winter weather on Saturday as an approaching storm will dump heavy, wet snow on the area, forecasters predict.

The National Weather Service in Milwaukee said that southeast Wisconsin could see periods of heavy snow, especially on Saturday morning between 4 a.m. and 1 p.m. Forecasters are predicting that some counties could see an inch or more of snow fall per hour and that the region could see 6-10 inches of snow by the time that the storm is finished. The snow is supposed to taper off in the afternoon hours and should be gone by 5 p.m., forecasters said Friday.

The weather service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the greater Milwaukee until 1 p.m. on Saturday while other areas of the state remain in a winter weather advisory

Forecasters said that the path of the storm remains uncertain “both on the boom or bust side”, the weather service wrote on Friday in a social media post. Some scenarios show heavy snow falling in southeast Wisconsin Saturday morning while some models show the snow going east and completely missing southern Wisconsin, forecasters said.

Forecasters said that temperatures on Friday will remain in the 40s which should keep roadways, the weather service. That could make things a bit easier for travelers on Saturday when most of the accumulating snow will remain in grassy areas.

Forecasters are predicting the snow to be wet and heavy on Saturday when temperatures are expected to eventually climb to near 40 before temperatures climb to 43 on Sunday. The National Weather Service is predicting a 100 percent chance of snow on Sunday with most areas seeing 3-5 inches of snow while some localized counties could see 4-7 inches fall.

Accuweather predicts that some of the snow could arrive overnight Friday into Saturday after rain showers transition over to snow. Accuweather expects the storm to last about 6 ½ hours before eventually moving out of the area.
