5 Schools Put On Lockout After Apartment Burglary, Gunshots: Cops

Police in Wauwatosa say two suspects are on the run after they broke into a Wauwatosa man's apartment and fired a gun at him.

WAUWATOSA, WI — Five Wauwatosa schools were put on lockout Wednesday morning after police say a Wauwatosa man came home to his apartment and found burglars inside. One of the burglars shot at the man, police said.

According to Wauwatosa police, officers were sent to an apartment on the 7400 block of W. Center Street just after 11 a.m. on March 11 on two reports of a gunshot.

Police said officers arrived, and spoke with an apartment resident, who said he came home that morning, only to find someone had broken into his apartment.

According to police, the man confronted the uninvited guest, who was trying to burglarize the apartment with an accomplice. Police said the burglar pulled out a gun and fired one shot at the apartment resident, but missed.

When police talked with the apartment resident further, he said there were two suspects involved in Wednesday's burglary, and that they ran from the apartment, got into a car, and fled in an unknown direction.

According to police, the lockout was lifted after police determined the two suspects were no longer in the area.

Police say they're continuing to investigate the situation, and are trying to track down the suspects.
