Burglaries of Village Area Businesses Continue

Break-ins reported at hair salon and automotive shop last week.

Another burglary in the Village, reminiscent of several others that have occurred there and nearby recently, hit a hair salon last week, and not far away an automotive business was targeted earlier in the week.

At 8:26 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to , 7430 Harwood Ave., on a report of a break-in. The owner had arrived at 8:15, and she found a cabinet opened and paper strewn on the floor.

She also found fresh pry marks around the back door and jamb. She said that the cabinet was where the cash drawers were kept, and that less than $100 in various denominations of currency had been stolen.

She told police there was a security camera at the back of the store, but she had not been able to get hold of the building’s owner to ask that recordings be made available to police.

Niemann's Candies, 7475 Harwood Ave., and Tuesday’s Child Resale Shoppe, 7471 Harwood Ave., in the Village and Simma's Bakery, 817 N. 68th St. in the Hyde Park district around 68th and Wells streets, were all burglarized the night of July 4.

Leaf springs lost nearby

At 6:08 a.m. Monday, the owner of , 6450 River Parkway, called police to report that his business had been burglarized overnight.

Someone had broken a window, entered and stolen a small amount of cash and 60 automotive leaf springs worth $1,400.

Police discovered that the burglar or burglars had rolled a tire under the window and stacked a cinder block on top of it to reach the window.
