WAUWATOSA, WI — An ice cream shop plans to open in Midtown Wauwatosa on W. North Avenue and N. 84th Street.

Liz Joy wants to open Joy Ice Cream shop at 8334 W. North Ave., city records showed. The ice cream shop is meant to provide a "welcoming and inspiring space" for neighborhood families while serving ice cream, coffee and snacks.

"Wauwatosa, and specifically midtown Tosa, is a growing, thriving community that has an expanding population of younger families with limited dining and gathering options," Joy said in the shop plan. Existing cafes and coffee shops aren't as welcoming for informal gatherings with children, she added.

The shop plans to serve charcuterie boxes, regular coffee, cold brew coffee, house made coffee and iced tea, the plan said. Candy, gifts and art would be for sale in a retail area.

Planned hours are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday, with peak business hours between mid-April and mid-December, the plan said.

A midtown Tosa resident for 10 years, Joy said she had "talked extensively with my neighbors and friends about how we would love to see a family focused, gathering spot for families in the neighborhood."

Plans for the shop will be considered by the Wauwatosa Plan Commission on Monday.

The lot has been vacant since 2015. Google Maps showed the host to Wauwatosa Gas around 2011 to 2014 and before that it was a Clark gas station.
