Family Says 17-Year-Old Son Was Shot In Back at Mayfair Mall
The family of a 17-year-old boy says their son was shot and killed by a Wauwatosa Police officer as he ran from them at Mayfair Mall.

WAUWATOSA, WI — An officer-involved shooting at Mayfair Mall Sunday night has left one person dead.
On Monday, the family of that victim made their loss public. According to a WTMJ report, the family says 17-year-old Alvin Cole was shot and killed by a Wauwatosa police officer as he was pursued through the parking lot of Mayfair Mall on Sunday. The boy's family sayd he was shot in the back, according to the news report. Police said he had a gun.

According to Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber, officers were sent to Mayfair Mall just before 6 p.m. Sunday on a report of a disturbance that was being caused by a group of 10 people inside the mall.

The chief said a witness told officers that one member of the group causing the disturbance was armed with a handgun.
According to a FOX 6 report, police found the group outside in the mall's parking lot, and several members ran when they saw police coming. Weber said the suspect had the gun during the pursuit. One officer opened fire, shooting and fatally wounding one person during the chase. Police did not say whether the suspect pointed the gun at police during the case.
Wauwatosa Police reported finding a gun at the site where the suspect was shot. The suspect was transported to Froedtert Hospital. He was later pronounced dead by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner
Weber said the Wauwatosa officer was put on administrative leave, as is department policy. The Milwaukee Police Department is handling the case.
Police have not identified the deceased in this officer-involved shooting.
