WAUWATOSA,WI— Police on Saturday are still searching for a person they say injured multiple people in a Friday shooting at Mayfair Mall. The shooting, which police said was not random and had stemmed from an altercation at the mall, injured eight people, including seven adults and one teenager.

In a tweet sent just after 11 a.m., Wauwatosa police said investigators were working "tirelessly" to identify and apprehend the suspect, who they described as a white male between 20-30 years old.

Police encouraged anyone with information about the shooting or the shooter's identity to call 414-471-8430.

Weber also said any reports about the identity of the shooter were false. The shooter was not at the scene when police arrived and it is unknown if the shooter is still within the mall or not. He is described as a white man in his 20s or 30s wearing a grey hoodie.

Wauwatosa Mayor Dennis McBride released a statement Saturday, thanking first responders and community residents for their "strength and determination."

"Events like this shake us, but a community as strong as Wauwatosa is will not lose its spirit because of this unfortunate incident and Mayfair will continue to be a magnet for shoppers across the region," McBride said. "We have survived past challenges and we will survive this one."

Police responded to the mall around 2:50 p.m. Friday after receiving multiple 911 calls about a shooting near the northwestern entrance. Live footage from the scene showed a heavy police presence and multiple people being taken out on stretchers.

Wauwatosa Mayor Dennis McBride also confirmed the shooting and said none of the victims had life-threatening injuries. The FBI also responded to the scene to assist local law enforcement.

Mayfair Mall released a statement on social media following the shooting.

"We are disheartened and angered that our guests and tenants were subject to this violent incident today. We are thankful for our partners at the Wauwatosa Police Department and we are cooperating with them as their investigation develops. Mayfair is closed at this time," the mall said.

"Our thoughts go out to our community, especially those who were injured and affected by the incident today," police said in a statement. "Events like this shake a community, and we remain committed to protecting those who live in and visit Wauwatosa."

Mandela Barnes, Wisconsin Lt. Gov. tweeted, "Our community has been through so much. As we await the details, always remember that we deserve more than thoughts and prayers."
