Interstate 41 North Reopens After Wrong-Way Crash Near Capitol Drive

Northbound Interstate 41 near Capitol Drive re-opened after a wrong-way crash between an SUV and semi Wednesday morning, authorities said.

MILWAUKEE, WI — The northbound lanes of Interstate 41 were reopened Wednesday afternoon after authorites said an SUV and a semi-truck crashed head-on early that morning.

The sheriff's office reported the wrong-way crash around 5:15 a.m. The semi-driver was OK but the SUV driver sustained serious injuries, the agency said. A passenger in the SUV was conscious and breathing, according to the sheriff's office.

Around 8 hours elapsed from when the closure began to when the roadway was reported open again. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation said all lanes were re-opened by 1:24 p.m.

The semi-truck was a UPS truck carrying packages, according to a report by WISN12.

Interstate 94 and 43 also faced closures Wednesday morning, likely causing commuters headaches across the greater Milwaukee area. According to a tweet by the sheriff's office, both faced closures because of reported shootings.
