📰 News we're reading

1. Urgent repairs close railroad crossing in Wisconsin (wearegreenbay.com) — A key railroad crossing on 70th Street in Wauwatosa is closed indefinitely after CPKC Rail reported an urgent problem with track-to-signal communication, affecting direct access to Hart Park. Drivers are being detoured via the 68th Street and Honey Creek Parkway intersection to reach the Hart Park driveway, and the city has not yet announced when the crossing will reopen.

2. New I-94 East-West Project ramp closures begin in Milwaukee on Dec. 15 (jsonline.com) — If you drive between Wauwatosa and Milwaukee, expect new I-94 ramp closures and a long-term shutdown of Hawley Road at I-94 starting in late December, all tied to Wisconsin’s $1.7 billion East-West project. This West Leg work, just east of Wauwatosa, will last into 2028 and could significantly change daily routes for commuters and shoppers.

3. Milwaukee County EMS blood transfusion program looks to expand (spectrumnews1.com) — If you’re critically injured in Wauwatosa, local paramedics can now give you lifesaving whole blood transfusions before you even reach the hospital. Wauwatosa is one of seven Milwaukee County fire departments carrying type O+ blood in cooled, on-board systems, and county health leaders plan to expand the program after reporting nearly 40 successful pre-hospital transfusions in its first year.

4. Urban spelunking: 1921 Stein House a perfect fit for Michelle the Astronomer (onmilwaukee.com) — A historic architect’s work quietly links Shorewood’s 1920s Stein House to several similar Prairie-style homes in Wauwatosa and Milwaukee’s East Side. The story follows astrophysicist and former NASA leader Michelle Thaller, who returned home, bought the Shorewood house sight-unseen, and found her lifelong furniture and Japanese art perfectly suited to its Frank Lloyd Wright–inspired design and rich ownership history.
