Longfellow Teacher Lisa Nass Passes Away Suddenly
Grief counseling will be available Monday despite spring break in classes and again when school resumes.

In an e-mail and phone call to parents, Principal Jason Galien announced Saturday afternoon that 8th-grade math teacher Lisa Nass had died unexpectedly on Friday.
Nass had taught at Longfellow since 1998. She had previously taught 6th-grade math and science. According to her biography on the School District website, Nass graduated from St. Norbert College with double degrees in both mathematics and education. She grew up in Madison.
Despite the spring break in classes this coming week, Galien said that school and district crisis teams would be available to students, staff and parents at Longfellow at noon Monday and again the following Monday when classes resume.

Dear Parent/Guardian:
I am very sad to have to send this message to everyone today. One of our Longfellow teachers, Lisa Nass (8th grade math) passed away at her home unexpectedly sometime yesterday.
Lisa Nass was well known in our school community. She was an 8th grade teacher this year but taught 6th grade for many years prior. Lisa Nass's death will affect not only students, but our entire staff, and families.
Members of the school and district crisis teams will be available here at Longfellow on MONDAY, APRIL 9TH from 9am -12 noon and again on MONDAY, APRIL 16th when classes resume. Student Services staff will be on hand to address concerns, answered questions and will be assisting with the grieving process.
During this time your child may be feeling confusion and have questions about death. Listening to your child at this time is of utmost importance. Help them to express their concerns and feelings. This can be done through drawing pictures, reading books, and talking about their emotions.
Any concerns that you might have about your child's feelings or change in behavior please contact one of the school counselors.
6th grade Mrs. Weiler 773-2428
7th grade Mr. Bentley 773-2429
8th grade Mrs. Ennis 773-2427
School counselors will also have a list of books and materials that can help you to support your child during these times.
Funeral arrangements have not be disclosed at this time. Lisa Nass's family is from the Madison area so I anticipate the funeral and services will be held in that part of the state.
Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or concerns. My direct line is 773-2410.
Sincerely,
Jason Galien
Principal
