Milwaukee Foodie News: Pizza in Just 2 Minutes and A Dunkin' Donuts on Highway 100

This week's edition of Patch's foodie column features news about Blaze Pizza, which uses special ovens to bake its pizzas in 120 seconds, opening its first location in the Milwaukee area.

If you love food and exploring new places to eat, or want to find out what eateries are coming and going, we have latest restaurant and other "foodie" news from throughout the Milwaukee area. Here's a look at what's new on the local food, restaurant and bar scene.

The '2-Minute Pizza' is Coming to Brookfield

Blaze Pizza, a chain that creates specialty pizza for customers in just two minutes, will open its first Wisconsin location in Brookfield this fall. Blaze Pizza uses an assembly line format that's similar to Chipotle Mexican Grill to create artisan pizzas at lightning fast speed. Each restaurant makes its own dough from scratch and customers watch as each dough ball is pressed into a generous 12-inch crust. Next, they travel down the assembly line to “co-create” a pizza or design one of their own — with over 40 artisanal toppings to choose from. Pizzas are “fast-fire’d” in a blazing-hot oven and ready in a 120 seconds. A Taste of Sicily in the North Shore

A new pizza place also is being planned on North Oakland Avenue in Shorewood. Four longtime friends expect to start slicing Sicilian-style pizza pies in about two weeks, when they open The "Runaway Meatball. Along with the pizzas, the restaurant will serve Italian sandwiches, including meatball subs, and chicken wings. New Dunkin' Donuts Opens in Hales Corners

It seems like they're popping up all over the Milwaukee area: A Dunkin' Donuts has just opened its doors in Hales Corners. The restaurant is the 12th one in southeastern Wisconsin, and is the seventh new Dunkin' Donuts in the Milwaukee area for the Milwaukee Coffee Brewing Co., a partnership of six franchisees. The Hales Corners shop is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Read more on the Dunkin' Donuts Patch blog.

Panther Pub Closer to Opening in Greendale

It's not unusual for a sports bar or restaurant to have a specific theme — for example, there are probably hundreds of Green Bay Packers bars around the state. But the Panther Pub & Eatery is paying homage to the local high school team: the  Greendale Panthers. The eagerly awaited restaurant, which is located in a former bank building, is expected to open before August. Read more on Greendale Patch.

A couple of places closing, too

Unfortunately, not all the news is good in this week's column as two area restaurants have closed their doors for good. In Muskego, the Delish New American Grill on Janesville Road shut its doors after about three months in business. And at the Southridge Mall in Greendale, Taco Place, the only place in the food court that served Mexican food, also closed. Mall management tells Patch that Southridge already has a tentant lined up for that spot.
