WAUWATOSA, WI — RoddyMedical, a Wauwatosa medical device company, announced it raised $600,000 in seed investment to manufacture and launch the firm’s wearable medical device, the SecureMove-TLC.

The device is designed to eliminate the hazard to hospital patients of having their intravenous lines pull out or get dislodged, the company said.

The company announced a partnership with the Winnebago Seed Fund and the Winnow Fund, two venture capital firms.

“Lindsey Roddy’s years of firsthand clinical experience and connections have driven the product and team forward and ensured that the product design meets the needs voiced by frontline healthcare workers,” Richelle Martin, managing director of the Madison-based Winnow Fund said in a statement.

Lindsey Roddy, a registered nurse, founded RoddyMedical after nearly losing one of her ICU patients while helping the patient get out of bed after surgery. A line carrying the patient’s life support got caught and pulled out of his neck, the company said in its news release.

The experience inspired Roddy to design a product to prevent such a thing from happening again. Her company launched the SecureMove-TLC, a wearable single-use medical device designed to organize and secure different types of medical tubes, IV lines and cords to support patient therapy efficiency and improve IV medication safety.

“RoddyMedical is especially excited to be partnering with two venture capital firms that fervently support Wisconsin based startups and growth in the state,” Roddy said in a statement. “Our strategic manufacturing partners are located in Wisconsin and the Midwest to purposefully support the state and region.”

RoddyMedical has garnered multiple letters of support from hospital leaders in Wisconsin and throughout the county. The company is a finalist in this years’ Wisconsin Innovation Awards.
