Wauwatosa Man Arrested On Child Porn Charges From Kik Chat Group

Police in Wauwatosa say a man has been arrested and charged after they found child porn images on his tablet.

WAUWATOSA, WI — A 70-year-old Wauwatosa man has been arrested and now faces multiple child pornography charges after authorities say they were tipped off by the Department of Homeland Security that he was posting and viewing child porn on a Kik chat room.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County, Michael Dupree has been charged with three counts of child pornography possession. If convicted, he faces up to 45 years prison. Dupree is out on a $10,000 signature bond.

According to court records, Dupree waived his preliminary hearing. He is due back in court on March 16 for a scheduling conference.

According to the criminal complaint, a Wauwatosa police detective received a message from the Department of Homeland Security saying that a resident, later identified as Dupree, posted a video of suspected child pornography in a Kik chat group in Nov. 2018.

Kik is a mobile messaging app that can be used on both Android and iPhone devices.

Authorities said they linked Dupree to the video by learning of his email address and linking his IP address involved in his suspected Kik chat room activity to his home in Wauwatosa. Police said they checked police records that verified Dupree's address.

Police said they searched a Samsung tablet at HP laptop after they were collected at Dupree's home. Police said they found the photos on his Samsung tablet.

Police said they questioned Dupree about his apparent use of child pornography. Police said he admitted to viewing child pornography in the past, but claimed it was between 10 to 15 years ago.
