Wauwatosa Police Warn Residents To 'Go Slow In The Snow'

The first major snow of the season is supposed to arrive on Tuesday evening.

WAUWATOSA, WI—The first major snow of the season is supposed to arrive on Tuesday evening. According to the National Weather Service, there is a winter weather advisory in effect starting at 6 p.m. for portions of east central, south central and southeast Wisconsin. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches is possible. Traffic could be difficult and impact the commute.

The Wauwatosa Police Department posted the following tips:

  • A 4 wheel drive does not help you stop. You sure do look cool as you blow by everyone in your truck, however, you look less cool as a Prius slowly passes you while you're in a ditch.
  • Leave some distance between you and the car in front of you. Just because you're behind the wheel of the SUV version of the Titanic doesn't mean you're snowvincible.
  • Clean off your windshield completely. Don't scrape a six inch hole and drive while looking through it like you're a tank commander. Yeah, its cold outside but you know what else is cold? Being stuck in a wet, snowy pile with a $100 tow on the way.
  • Get some decent tires.

"You have no idea how many times we hear "but I can't afford new tires" as people sit there in the ditch with their new iPhone, Beats headphones, Under Armour coat and Ugg boots. Priorities people," the post said.
