Wauwatosa Restaurant Owner No Longer Plans To Open May 1

WAUWATOSA, WI — A restaurant owner in Wauwatosa says he's no longer planning to reopen his dining room after earlier calls suggested he would open on May 1, defying the state's Safer At Home order.

Under the Safer At Home order, restaurants are only allowed to provide carry-out and delivery service until at least May 26.

Dan Zierath, owner of Jackson's Blue Ribbon Pub in Wauwatosa, 11302 W. Bluemound Road, said he's no longer planning on reopening his bar May 1 after he initially insisted that he had the right to do it.

"The fact of the matter is I just got off the phone with the assistant city attorney in Wauwatosa and she cannot guarantee me that I would not be putting all my licenses in jeopardy. I just want people to know that this was never about me and I certainly didn’t need that kind of publicity about my personal life to be aired out to the world," Zierath said in a Facebook post this week.

Upon hearing the original announcement, he operators of another Milwaukee-area tavern, also called the "Jackson's Blue Ribbon Pub," were shocked when they heard of Zierath's announcement last week.

"To clarify, we are under different ownership from the Jackson's in Tosa," they wrote on Facebook in response. "We do not share in any of his views or opinions. We will most definitely NOT be opening until the stay-at-home order has been lifted. Thank you for your continued support." The downtown pub is at 1203 N. 10th St. in Milwaukee.

Wauwatosa passed two new ordinances March 29 pertaining just to the state's stay-at-home order.
