Karate-Themed Kids Coding Center Opens in Casper
Casper Center Focuses on Coding through Building Video Games, Robotics, Drones and other STEM Activities

Kids love gaming and parents want to steer their children towards educational opportunities. The local owners of Code Ninjas Casper, a learn to code center at 4080 S. Poplar St., know that video games aren’t only fun, but can be educational. Code Ninjas is serving the central Wyoming area by teaching children computer coding and problem-solving skills while having fun building video games.
The first Wyoming location is owned and operated by Casper locals Sarah Romer and Thea True-Wells. Romer has a Master’s Degrees in Clinical Laboratory Science and Education. Her experience in science and education has encompassed students of all ages; from creating online Clinical Laboratory Science curriculum for several universities, to running an elementary school literacy program. True-Wells holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education. She has experience teaching science in elementary through high schools and has instigated numerous educational opportunities in Casper. After seeing a need for more in-depth STEM education for children, the two decided to bring the state’s first Code Ninjas to Casper.
“We’re excited to bring a concept to the community that will benefit the children in Casper,” said Romer. “We know kids today are experts at using technology, but we want to teach them how to create it and understand it, not simply consume it. By incorporating coding and STEM concepts into games kids already love, they gain essential life skills, like problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. Technology plays a big role in our everyday lives, and our kids can be prepared to really make a difference with a better understanding of it.”

Casper children ages 5-14 can look forward to visiting the new Code Ninjas center to learn how to code in a fun, safe, and social learning environment where gaming is celebrated and STEM is cool. Everything about Code Ninjas is built around fun and that keeps kids coming back. The center also provides parents the results they are looking for - their child gains coding experience and problem-solving skills for future success.
Code Ninjas accomplishes this with a robust, game-based curriculum made up of nine belts modeled after martial arts. The curriculum is self-paced, but not self-taught; kids get immediate help and encouragement from Code Senseis and fellow students as they advance from white to black belt. The program keeps kids motivated with little wins along the way and “Belt-Up” celebrations where they receive color-coded wristbands to mark their graduation to the next level. By the time a child achieves a black belt in the program, they will have built many games and designed and coded their own app which will be published in an app store.

Code Ninjas Casper is taking multiple safety precautions to ensure the safety of its guests and employees. Several safeguards are in place, including, but not limited to, constant cleaning of the dojo and lobby area, required health screening, face masks, and social distancing for ninjas and “senseis.”
Code Ninjas offers a variety of opportunities for children to get involved, including a flexible weeknight drop-in program, camps and Parents Night Out events on weekends.
