- More than 30 students in Shelby County were recognized as Character in Action award recipients. The Character in Action award, which recognizes students who go beyond the norm to set a good example for others, was created in 2014. To see a full list of students recognized, click the link. - Shortages in staffing are causing delays and failure to pickup for local trash services. Mayor Woodfin visited the City Council on Tuesday and spoke with them about the causes of recent trash pickup problems. According to Mayor Woodfin, not only is the department short on equipment, it is also short on drivers. Woodfin urges residents to be patient about the city's trash schedule while the gap in hiring closes and city officials communicate with residents about where trash needs to be collected.
