This first-in-a-decade collaboration expands life-saving options for local kids, potentially shortening wait times for pediatric liver transplants across the state.
   

2. 21-year-old Calera man shot to death on Birmingham porch (al.com) — Police have identified the 21-year-old Calera man found fatally shot on the porch of a southwest Birmingham house as D’Andre Latrell Sowell Jr. The late-night shooting on Boise Avenue marks Birmingham’s 86th homicide this year. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Birmingham police or Crime Stoppers to help move the investigation forward.

Women's rehabilitation center in Birmingham acquires 56-unit housing complex (al.com) — A major Birmingham women’s rehabilitation nonprofit is expanding housing for its graduates, buying a 56-unit complex near its East Lake campus to create Brenda’s Courtyard. The Lovelady Center says the project will eventually add over 100 supportive homes, easing the tough transition to stable housing while working with current tenants so no one is forced out.

Birmingham Legion inks quartet to new deals for 2026 season (uslchampionship.com) — Birmingham Legion FC is locking in key defenders and midfielders for the 2026 USL Championship season, while confirming several returning players and parting ways with one goalkeeper. The moves keep familiar faces in Birmingham and signal stability for fans looking ahead to next year’s campaign at Protective Stadium.
