  1. Birmingham is investing $1 million to help students’ financial literacy. The BHM Financial Freedom Project will be launched in the second week of October at six BCS campuses and will eventually be implemented at all schools in the district. Mayor Woodfin said, “I was taught about math, I was taught about reading, I was taught about social studies and science. What I was not taught about was financial literacy. That was something that I had to acquire on my own. We want better for our children.” (WIAT - CBS42.com)
  2. The DMV was recently unable to process in-person license transactions due to a statewide network outage. Individuals were still able to utilize the online interface for renewals or payments. As of Tuesday, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Driver License System was functional for both in-person and online services. (WBRC)
  3. On Monday afternoon, firefighters rushed to extinguish a blaze at Perry’s Steakhouse in the Colonnade. Although the cause of the fire is not yet clear, officials say the fire started inside the building and made its way to the roof. Everyone safely evacuated and no injuries were reported. (AL.com)
