28-Year-Old Man Killed In East Birmingham Shooting

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A shooting in east Birmingham Monday morning resulted in the death of a 28-year-old man. The incident occurred just after 4 a.m. in the 8500 block of of 3rd Avenue North.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald of the Birmingham Police Department said the preliminary investigation suggests that several people at the location were en route to work when an unknown suspect approached them and began firing shots.

Sergio Hernandez Leiva was found dead on the scene. The shooter reportedly fled the scene, and no arrests have been made in this case.
