Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:
- 35,000 meals were provided to children over the summer by the Community Foodbank of Central Alabama, according to the food bank. - Looking for an activity this weekend? Bham Now found a list of seven activities around town between Aug. 12 and Aug. 14. Picasso Pets is a garden party with drinks, wine pull, a gift card wall, and more. All of the proceeds from the event will benefit Hand in Paw. IMAX will host a showing of E.T. to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film. Click the link to see all seven events. (Bham Now)
- The City of Birmingham is taking a new step in its work to curb street racing. Automatic traffic enforcement, which utilizes cameras to enforce speed and intersection laws, is the primary strategy being used by officials. According to Peachtree Recovery Services, Inc., Birmingham averages about 19,000 traffic accidents per year. Some residents expressed their concern that privacy might be invaded by the creation of more cameras. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
