  1. In light of the violent crimes throughout Jefferson County, Dr. Josh Klapow is emphasizing the importance of mental health for communities. Klapow, an Associate Professor of Public Health at The University of Alabama, says it's normal to feel frustrated, fearful, or worried about safety. Klapow recommends immersing yourself in an activity that makes you feel calm. (WBRC)
  2. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service helped rescue 40 dogs from a hazmat situation in downtown Birmingham. On Monday morning, first responders were called to Dog Days of Birmingham after a cleaner used on the floor inside the building started smoking. First responders also reported that two people at the scene were having difficulty breathing. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
  3. With a grant from the Department of Justice, Better Basics hopes to use reading to deter crime in Birmingham. “Everything we do, we try and bring children up to grade level in reading and math,” Dr. Kristi Bradford, Executive Director of Better Basics Inc. said. Better Basics plans to use the $28,000 for academic and enrichment programs at Central Park and Martha Gaskins Elementary schools. (WBRC)
