Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:
- Abrams Elementary School was evacuated on Wednesday due to a fire in the area at a plant nearby. Although the school was not on fire, the smoke from the plant was very visible at the school. Bessemer Schools Superintendent Autumm Jeter elected to have children picked up because of chemicals at the plant. (WBRC)
- The Greater Birmingham Humane Society rescued over 40 dogs from Hurricane Ian's path. During a trip to Florida, they visited two Tampa area shelters. Throughout the storm, the agency will host the animals as well as Code 3, a national animal rescue group. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
- The Birmingham Water Works Chair Chris Rice has doubled back and says he won’t dispute his resignation. Rice submitted a second letter of resignation after disputing the first letter, saying he was under duress. The BWW Board voted Wednesday to accept Rice’s latest resignation letter, which means Rice was chair from the time of his first resignation letter. (WBRC)
