  1. On Thursday night, a 29-year-old was killed in a Birmingham crash. Antonio Laden Haynes, of Gardendale, died when he lost control of his car on Decatur Highway around 7:30 p.m. and rolled the car over, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said. The crash resulted in several passengers being ejected from the vehicle and multiple people were taken to a local hospital in unknown condition. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
  2. A Birmingham grocery store manager has been ordered to repay $4.6 million after pleading guilty to tax and wire fraud charges. Omar Motley, 42, manipulated the Supplemental Nutrition Act Program of the millions by unlawfully redeeming EBT SNAP benefits for cash and ineligible items over a period of three years at the Big B Food Mart at 4012 24th Street North where he worked. His sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 8. (AL.com)
  3. The World Games has been years in the making for Birmingham — and it has finally begun. The big announcement for the event came back in 2015, and on Thursday, it kicked off. The World Games will last until Sunday, Jul. 17. The city has an amazing opportunity to show the world who we are over the next few days, according to Mayor Randall Woodfin. (WBRC)
