Tropical Depression Fred is expected to regenerate and return to tropical storm status late today or Sunday morning over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, with the entire Mississippi Coast now in the warning cone for a risk of tropical conditions beginning Monday, the National Hurricane Center says. 2. The Birmingham Police Department's Community Outreach and Public Education Division along with the Church of the Highlands hosted a city-wide food giveaway event. (WVTM13)
3. A Pelham police officer died Saturday morning after a battle with COVID-19.
   Officer Juan Gomez, 39, was hospitalized Aug. 6 with the coronavirus. (AL.com)
